Review: Highland Surrender by Dawn Halliday
Blurb:From the author of "wickedly erotic romance" (Monica McCarty) comes the tale of a Highland lass and an earl with dark desires.
Determined to put his roguish past behind him, the Earl of Camdonn arranges to marry the proper Lady Elizabeth. But when an accident lands the Earl in the expert hands of a beautiful Highland medicine woman, all well-laid plans are thrown to the wind- and, just as in the old days, his passions run high...
Ceana MacNab has terrible luck with men. Resigning herself to the healing arts, she has steeled her heart against love. Then fate sends Cam her way. Even though he's a well-bred Earl-and Ceana a low-born Highlander-their all-consuming passion may lead the way to lasting bliss.
Highland Surrender is the second book by Ms. Halliday in her Highland series. Those of you that read her first book Highland Obsession will recognize Cam The Earl of Camdonn from it. (Now I hasten to say that I did not get a chance to read Highland Obsession before diving into this one but it did not hurt the story at all it was fine as a stand alone. I had no trouble at all following along with the story and what a story it is!)
The Earl of Camdonn is determined that he has turned from his reckless and wicked ways and he has vowed that he will be the kind of Laird that his people need and that will make them proud! He has traveled to England and procured for himself the perfect wife. And it would seem that he has found just that in the very well connected Lady Elizabeth Grant the well bred and genteel daughter of a Duke. The match being blessed and recommended by both the Duke of Argyle and the King as well, Cam is positive he has found the perfect bride with whom to rule his lands and beget his rightful heir! But on the way back to the Highlands he and his party are set upon by highwaymen and Cam trying to lead the bandits away from the other coach carrying his betrothed Lady Elizabeth leads the bandits indeed from them, but he is shot and gravely wounded in the process. It seems that fate has other plans for him though when he is found by Ceana MacNab the Highland healer of the Glen. Ceana nurses Cam back to health but soon passionate feelings start to grow between the beautiful healer and the wounded Earl. But Cam is betrothed to Elizabeth and even though his body burns for Ceana he tries desperately to subdue his feelings and to do the right thing. But can true passion and could it be even more possibly love? Truly be denied even for what seems to be all the right reasons.
There are many layers to this wonderful tale including much more to Lady Elizabeth and her past that meet the eye. Then there is the mysterious and deadly curse that lies upon all the MacNab women (including Ceana) saying that no MacNab woman can ever marry. Plus an evil Duke, another sexy kilted male suitor that wants one of the women for his own and much, much more! This one has it all!!!! And don’t forget it has so much heat coming from the pages that I was lucky my sleeves didn’t catch on fire! ;)
I was totally enthralled by this story from the very start and I read it in no time flat because I simply couldn’t put it down. This is the first novel that I have read of Dawn Halliday’s but I am now in search of getting my hands on her other books as well! She is an absolutely joy to read! She pulls you into the story and doesn’t let go sending you along with the characters through intrigue, scandal, passion, danger and will leave you breathless! You feel as if you know the people intimately that your reading about and by the time your done you are left wanting more and sorry to see the book end. It is a true gift when an author can do that and Ms Halliday certainly has! I can’t wait to see more from this new author she has proved herself to me with this engrossing tale! I can easily see her name being up there with the likes of Moning, Howell, and Ranney in no time with books like these.
This book was provided to me by Night Owl Romance in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Sounds like a well crafted, multi-layered tale. Those are always the best. Throw in the Highlands and men in kilts and the story can't miss.
